Is there a difference between alluvial and fluvial modes of deposition, or are they two terms to describe the same thing?
Alluvial refers to material moved and deposited by water whereas Fluvial refers to material moved and deposited by a river or stream. There can be instances were water moves and deposits materials but it isn’t actually a river or stream. This can be the case in mountain areas or right at the terminus of a glacier. Alluvium is not well sorted like fluvial material. take care, Mario
