The Applied Soil Ecology Lab’s dry combustion analyzer (Vario Max Cube CNS, Elementar) grabs a new sample every 15 minutes and analyzes it for total nitrogen and carbon content at 900°C, which is hot enough to turn ceramic crucibles red hot.
